City Council Approves Fairfield Inn Project Supported by Chamber

​At its May 9th meeting, the Oceanside City Council voted in favor of the Fairfield Inn Hotel project, slated for Oceanside Blvd, just west of I-5. The project had originally been denied by the planning commission, but was supported in a 3-2 vote of the council, with Mayor Peter Weiss and councilmembers Jerry Kern and Jack Feller voting in favor of the project.

The 99-room hotel project, which is supported by the Chamber,  would provide an estimated $500,000 annually of additional TOT revenue to the City, along with the potential of increased sales tax revenue.  

Chamber CEO, Scott Ashton, was in attendance at the council meeting to speak on behalf of the project. "At a time when we are talking about the need for additional revenue for the City, this project would provide an important boost in funding for valuable city services that will benefit our community as a whole", said Ashton. "We believe that the decision of the Planning Commission (to deny the project) may be seen as favorable by a small group of residents nearby the project, but was not made in the best interests of the entire community." 

Ashton commented afterwards, "The Chamber applauds the decision of the council to act in the interest of the entire city and reverse the Planning Commission's denial of the project."
