The City of Oceanside has been working through the lengthy process of constructing railroad crossing improvements to meet Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) requirements to establish a Quiet Zone along the North County Transit District coastal corridor (San Diego Subdivision) through Oceanside. In a Quiet Zone, active devices such as gates, signals, and railings warn vehicle and pedestrian traffic of on-coming trains in lieu of the routine sounding of their horns. Train horns will still be used in emergency situations. Cities desiring to establish a Quiet Zone are first required to mitigate the risk by updating crossings to specific standards to ensure safety.

This waste of edible food represents loss of water, energy, and labor resources used to grow and transport this needed food. Many families are facing hunger for the first time as they navigate a global pandemic. With many families already facing food insecurity, the Green Oceanside team is providing tools and resources on maximizing food to last for the overall health and sustainability of the community

NATIONAL VOTER REGISTRATION DAY ACTIVITIES

9/8/2020

Oceanside Public Library, in partnership with the League of Women Voters of North County San Diego, invites you to participate in this year’s National Voter Registration Day activities. When George Washington was elected president in 1789, only 6% of the U.S. population was eligible to vote. Since then, Americans have marched, gone on hunger strikes, been beaten, and even died to win the right to vote. Sadly, today, many Americans take for granted the right to vote. In an online workshop on Tuesday, September 22 at 11 a.m., presenter Blaze Newman will tell the inspiring story of the Americans who fought for the past 172 years for the right to vote and the voting challenges present today. We’ll also discuss why so many Americans don’t vote and how to get registered.
