Oceanside Police Officer Charles Dabney patrols the City in which he grew up in. He is familiar with the streets, neighborhoods and the people. Like many of his fellow officers, he has a vested interest in the community in which he serves and is called to protect. Officer Dabney is one of several success stories of the Oceanside Police Department’s Explorer Program, one he joined as a teenager that fostered his interest in law enforcement.

In appreciation of the those facing the front lines to keep us safe, Integral Communities partnered with Oceanside flower grower Mellano & Company to deliver 1,500 bouquets to more than a dozen essential service providers, local businesses and community groups including Oceanside Police and Fire departments, Scripps Encinitas, Palomar Health Hospital and the USO at Camp Pendleton. The cheerful gifts were a way to thank first responders and essential businesses, brighten the days of those keeping our communities going, and support the farming community who has been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic.

Over the past twenty years thousands of local entrepreneurs and business owners have visited The North San Diego Small Business Development Center (SBDC) to help them start, manage and grow their businesses.  I was one of those entrepreneurs and the information and support I received was priceless. I am now celebrating a decade in business. The SBDC consultants have been with me and thousands of small business owners every step of the way.  There is no cost to entrepreneurs and small business owners for private one-on-one business advising and most of the training and resources available to them.

​City Adopts Chamber-Supported Density Cap Removal

The City of Oceanside has taken a positive step toward improving housing affordability in the downtown Oceanside district. In August, the Oceanside City Council adopted recommendations from City staff and the Downtown Advisory Committee to remove density caps on residential projects that are part of mixed-used developments in the Downtown District. The previous zoning ordinance allowed for a maximum of 43 dwelling units per acre. The removal of the density cap will allow for smaller, more affordable units, while maintaining all other development requirements including height, setbacks and parking.

Hidden, just off I-5 in Oceanside, is an innocuous cluster of white brick business units, the area is a hive of activity; a neon vested man with a baton waves and directs me into my parking spot, as cars to and fro from this seemingly ordinary strip. A thrift shop, cafe, kitchen and several office units sit neatly side by side. Boxes are wielded out of the doors brimming with ripened fruit, canned goods and food packets, while a line of eager people - seniors and children wraps around the facade. ​

Downtown Oceanside has a wine destination of its own with the debut of Coomber Craft Wines; the 3,500-square-foot Mission Avenue urban winery and tasting room, which features a 1,700-square-foot back patio, is now open Monday through Thursday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from noon to 9 p.m.
