State Funding Allows for 50% Tuition Reduction for Many High-Demand, Technology-Focused Career Programs

March 16, 2020 – MiraCosta College Technology Career Institute (TCI) is excited to announce it has recruited Chris Ing to facilitate a state pilot program for California community colleges. The $3.5 million dollar funding from California Assembly Bill AB132 is designed to pay students during their internship with local businesses that partner with the College's career institute.

MiraCosta College Congratulates Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholarship Semifinalists

Every year more than a thousand community college students from all over the country apply for the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship. The Undergraduate Scholarship helps transfer students cover the final two or three years necessary to earn bachelor’s degrees. From this year’s pool of 1,200 applicants from 35 states, five MiraCosta students were selected as semi-finalists for the scholarship.

Anna Pedroza will assume the role of president and Frank Merchat as vice president. Board President Pedroza will preside over the Board meetings beginning January 27, 2022.

MiraCosta College's BrewTech program has earned the Grand National Championship title in the U.S. Open College Beer Championship. First-time contender in the championship, MiraCosta College won gold medals for their Hefeweizen, Pale Ale, Spring IPA, and Stout, plus a silver for their Raspberry Berliner.

MiraCosta College Celebrates Completion of Oceanside Campus Athletic Field Renovation

An extensive, 18-month renovation of the athletic track and field at MiraCosta’s Oceanside Campus has been completed, replacing an outdated track first built in the early 1980s with a modern walking/jogging track and world-class soccer/rugby and athletics field that meets size requirements for international competitions while providing additional practice space. The renovation also provided for a new, 2,100 square foot Field House with ADA-compliant restrooms, changing rooms, coaches’ offices, team rooms, and equipment storage.

MiraCosta College Academic Support Services Thriving During a Pandemic

Talk about trial by fire. With the COVID-19 pandemic leading to the closure of libraries and state-of-the-art tutoring centers, MiraCosta College faculty and professional staff were forced to quickly transition their academic support services to online platforms—with nothing less than the educational success of more than 15,000 students hanging in the balance. The MiraCosta College Tutoring & Academic Support Center deftly pivoted to drop-in, one-on-one appointments, in-class help, and student success workshops—all through online platforms. The MiraCosta College Library, in addition to growing its free laptop and mobile hotspot lending program, saw its “Ask A Librarian” staff engage in more than 1,100 online chats with students seeking help with their studies—and that doesn’t include hundreds of additional sessions with non-MiraCosta College librarians available during off hours. The STEM and Math Learning centers, along with the Library and Writing Center, provide online breakout rooms for individual and group study in addition to preview and review sessions for specific courses with expanded hours to cover late nights and weekends. And the Writing Center now offers all of its services on Sunday.
